Rearing traditional and ornamental hens on free range
I started Harmony Poultry over two years ago to try to make my 30 year
passion for poultry into a small rural business . There have been a few set
backs but lots of fun to get here, but I am succeeding in my goal to show
customers the great variety of poultry. It is also worth pointing out that they
can be a pet that actually pays it's way in these hard times
.
Another
objective is to keep some of the rarer breeds alive for the future. I have
travelled a few miles to source some stock but it has been
worthwhile.
The main chickens reared are Rhode Island Reds and
Light Sussex. They are both attractive, productive and very hardy. I also have
dark brown egg layers like Welsummers etc during the year.
If there
is something you particularly want please ask, as I may be able to find it .
For 2010 i will be hatching some Large Barred Plymouth Rocks and Large
Blue Orpingtons and hatching eggs from them all .
I am also excited
to have a Quartet of Chocolate Partridge Wyandotte bantams from Grant Brereton`s
breeding , it has taken him over 7 years to create these and they are crackers ,
hatching eggs will also be available .
All birds I rear are allowed access outside from around 5 weeks of age
making them hardy and healthy.
I entered my 1st show
for over 10 yrs at the Scottish National and got Best large Welsummer which was
very pleasing.
All poultry are sold regularly during the
year usually at point of lay.
